A Giant Snake Aims to Do What Giant Snakes Do in ‘Beware Boiúna’

While no giant snake movie can ever hope to top Anaconda (the original, not the recent meta remake), it looks like a strong addition to the genre has just slithered into the ring. Beware Boiúna has released its final trailer, and while the glimpses of its title monster are fleeting, there’s plenty of jungle dread to go around.

Unlike the darkly comedic Anaconda, Beware Boiúna appears to lean mostly into pure horror, though there always could be a character with a campy accent that’s not revealed in this footage.

“Deep in the Amazon, a medical mission spirals into a fight for survival when Boiúna, a colossal ancient predator, awakens to reclaim her domain,” reads the official synopsis. “In the jungle where nature holds absolute power, she decides who lives and who dies.”

It sounds like pretty standard survival horror, but the Amazon is more isolated and hostile than most environments—and that snake is undeniably, unnervingly large, not to mention territorial and very pissed-off.

The cast includes Kiana Madeira (Fear Street, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair), Logan Marshall-Green (The Odyssey, Marshals), and emergent scream queen Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day). The director is Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, Silent Night Deadly Night), with a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy (Wrong Turn, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers).

Beware Boiúna hits theaters October 2, and it’s too bad drive-ins aren’t really around anymore, because this looks like exactly the right kind of movie for that setting.
