Generative AI can be an automated agent, a creative strategist, and a research assistant. Now, Meta has figured out another occupation for its arsenal of LLMs: Personal stylist.
That’s the basic idea behind Style Sketch, a new app that Meta has quietly launched. Though the tech giant provided no official announcement pertaining to its new platform, Style Sketch is already helping its users pick out their outfits and match the items in their wardrobes.
The news of Style Sketch’s launch came from a familiar herald: Matt Navarra. The notable tech leaker posted about Meta’s fashion app on X. He noted several of the app’s features, including integrations with weather apps and a travel planner that chooses an itinerary of outfits for a chosen destination.
Style Sketch is arriving at a time when creators are gaining more influence and credibility in the world of haute couture. Kai Cenat recently took New York Fashion Week by storm with an event that promoted his apparel line Vivet. Meanwhile, Theorist Media’s Creators in Fashion shows have given YouTube stars the chance to strut their stuff in a runway setting.
Many creators express their fashion sense with “outfit of the day” posts, which are typically tagged with #OOTD on social media. Some tech companies, like ShopMy, have developed products that support #OOTD posts.
Style Sketch’s links to the #OOTD phenomenon make it an intriguing addition to the glut of fashion apps. Users can link their profiles to their accounts on Facebook and Instagram accounts — where #OOTD is a popular hashtag — allowing the app’s AI engine to detect the apparel they have already featured in posts.
