On 15 October, LinkedIn opened Advice Sessions to US Business Premium subscribers and began testing In-Stream Ads with select creators, but the platform has published neither eligibility criteria for video revenue nor the share it keeps from pre-roll ads.
LinkedIn announced seven features under the headline "New Ways to Build Meaningful Connections, Grow Your Side Hustle, and Earn on LinkedIn" on 15 October, citing a 70% rise in members adding "founder" to profiles and a 26% increase since 2019 in members reporting more than one position. The package splits into networking tools (a Network feed test, digital business cards, profile notes and pinned comments) and three monetisation features that matter more: a creator dashboard, In-Stream Ads and Advice Sessions.
The monetisation piece is the story. LinkedIn wants members to earn on the platform, through ads on their videos and fees for their time, and has started building the payment rails in the United States first.
In-Stream Ads pays select US creators when pre-roll video ads run before their eligible videos, with the programme being tested among select US creators and advertisers and broader access planned over time. The body of LinkedIn's announcement refers to "eligible creators" who can discover and join the programme from the dashboard, while the FAQ refers to "invited creators participating in the In-Stream Ads test", suggesting entry is by invitation during the test with an opt-in step inside the dashboard.
