A purple-star Recommend reaction linked to LinkedIn Premium is rolling out to live accounts, turning organic engagement into a paywall and creating friction for users who can see it but cannot use it.

A purple-star Recommend reaction linked to LinkedIn Premium is appearing in live accounts. The control is visible even on non-Premium accounts, but clicking it produces a message saying Premium is required.

The feature was first reported on 16 October 2026, and LinkedIn has not yet publicly announced or documented the rollout scope. Early reports suggest the reaction may have a weekly allowance and may be shown separately from ordinary reactions, but LinkedIn has not published eligibility, ranking or Page rules.

This puts LinkedIn's existing six reactions (Like, Celebrate, Support, Love, Insightful, Funny) alongside a seventh option most users cannot access.

LinkedIn already shifted its algorithm in 2026 to reward depth over volume. The platform's ranking leans heavily on Depth Score: how long and how meaningfully people engage, through dwell time, comment quality and saves. A post with a mix of Insightful reactions and thoughtful comments will usually travel further than one with lots of quick Likes.

Recommend could become a scarce professional endorsement. If the reaction carries a weekly limit, it forces Premium users to decide which posts deserve the signal. For creators and brands, that introduces a new variable: is your content strong enough to earn someone's limited weekly endorsement, or just one of many routine Likes?
