Meta research across nine Asia-Pacific markets shows small business AI adoption has hit 84%, with three-quarters reporting productivity gains and nearly two-fifths using it to reach customers cross-border. The catch: the vast majority say they can't unlock AI's full value without better guidance on cost, returns and privacy.

A YouGov survey commissioned by Meta of 3,983 small business owners across Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Japan and Hong Kong, conducted between 6 August and 2 September 2026, found that 84% currently use AI. 76% report a positive impact on productivity.

That 84% adoption figure sits well above recent US small business data. The US Census Bureau's Business Trends and Outlook Survey reported that 23.8% of US businesses used AI in at least one business function in the two weeks ending 6 September 2026. JP Morgan Chase transaction data put US small business paid AI tool adoption at 17.7% as of December 2025, though among those who have adopted, 80% or more report productivity improvements.

The APAC figure reflects self-reported use rather than transaction-verified adoption, but the regional enthusiasm is clear. 71% report a positive impact on revenue or sales over the past 12 months. 80% agree AI helps small businesses compete more effectively with larger companies, and the same share say AI makes starting a business easier.
