It’s been 17 years since a group of students at Texas A&M University launched Dude Perfect, and the brand that began with trick shots has now secured one of its biggest partners to date. The Frisco-based entertainment company has announced a wide-reaching partnership with Disney that will span YouTube, Disney+, ESPN, and real-world events.
The deal is the latest example of an agreement between a major creator brand and an SVOD platform. Netflix has made waves with a spending spree on creator content, and Disney recently got on board with that trend. A pact with Dhar Mann will bring original content from the “moral philosopher of YouTube” to Disney+ and other platforms.
At first glance, Disney’s deal with Dude Perfect resembles other arrangements between creators and SVOD hubs. The Mouse House will distribute a selection of Dude Perfect’s short-form content across Disney+, ESPN, and its social channels.
Disney, however, possesses a competitive advantage Netflix can’t match. Its vast selection of popular IP is a selling point unto itself, and Disney has leveraged that library in its negotiations. When it teamed up with TikTok earlier this year, creators gained access to licensed assets from Disney franchises, which they can repurpose for their videos.
Dude Perfect will gain a similar advantage. ” It will also have a presence at several important events on the Disney calendar, including Super Bowl LXI (which will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN), the 50th anniversary of Star Wars , and the release of the Marvel tentpole film Avengers: Doomsday .
