Xbox Game Pass Adds Award-Winning Horror Game Mouthwashing

With Halloween right around the corner, now is the perfect time to delve into your backlog and pull a few spooky games off the digital shelf. Especially since Xbox Game Pass just handed subscribers one of the best horror games of the 21st century — Mouthwashing.

This award-winning gem from indie developer Wrong Organ is a bite-sized two-hour haunt on a PSX-style spaceship that's hauling mouthwash. I won't spoil what happens, but the gist is that you're a member of a dying crew stranded on a shipwrecked space freighter that quickly unravels into a psychedelic fever dream with cartoon horses and cannibalism.

Mouthwashing won both Players' Choice and Best Narrative at The Horror Game Awards (2024), and was nominated at the DICE Awards (28th Annual) for Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game, Best Narrative at GDC 2025, and Game of the Year at The Indie Game Awards (2024). More importantly, it came 9th in The Gamer's GOTY awards. TLDR: it's good.

So, if you missed it in 2024, or just didn't have a PC to play it on at the time, dim the lights, hop aboard the Tulpar, and lose yourself in one of the most unnerving first-person horrors since Amnesia.

99. As for PC players who missed the train, the game is also 40% off on Steam, so you can pick it up for the price of a slightly expensive bottle of mouthwash.
