Every Scream Movie, Ranked By Kill Count

What good is a slasher movie without a high kill count? While the Scream films have a lot going for them, including their sharp sense of humor, innovative self-aware tone, and compelling whodunnit elements, horror fans expect a lot of burials for their buck, and so the long-running franchise has never skimped on the slayings. Even so, each new Ghostface murder spree is different from the last, so the total kill count varies from one movie to the next.

It's common for horror franchises to get bigger and bloodier with each new installment, but the Scream series is nothing if not subversive, so its kill counts don't necessarily increase every time. Some of the earlier films in the franchise are still among the goriest, while some of the latter entries might be less lethal than fans would expect. There are numerous ways to rank the Scream movies, from critical reception to box office gross, but this is the metric that matters most to slasher addicts. Here is every Scream film ranked by kill count.

These horror franchises go above and beyond to have the most sequels and spin-offs out there, rivaling even Fast and the Furious for movie entries.

The Scream franchise got off to a beautifully bloody start with the seminal 1996 original, which sports a none-too-shabby kill count of eight. Part of the macabre magic of the first Scream movie is that it wastes no time in wracking up the dead bodies, with both Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) and her boyfriend, Steve, killed off in the film's iconic opening scene.
