With advancements in Claude and other AI language learning models, a sewage pipe has burst over the modding scene, polluting the handcrafted work of talented fans with slop. The Sims 2 community has had enough, and the subreddit is now enacting a blanket ban on all vibecoded mods.
"Anybody who makes mods can apply for the modder flair, but mods that aren't egregious changes (ie. things we haven't seen before so quickly etc) are fine without the flair," the moderation team announced. "Vibecoded mods are low quality and no longer allowed. Regularly posting these will lead to a ban. This includes ALL CUSTOM CONTENT FOR THE SIMS 2. Modders who wish to post larger-than-life mods (major changes to the game) must apply for the 'Modder' flair from the subreddit to post; as a note, ALL AI VIBECODED MODS ARE BANNED, we simply now require regular modders (non-AI) to verify they make their own mods without vibecoding to protect the community."
The team also discourages heavily AI-edited screenshots, and warns they "may be removed," noting that there are free photo editing alternatives such as Canva and Gimp.
It's an issue that a lot of communities are now being forced to grapple with. And it's not simply a case of being anti-AI, either. Vibecoded projects, which are developed almost entirely with AI, typically have a mountain of tangled, overcomplicated, nonsensical code, churned out by non-programmers. That leaves them riddled with bugs that the author cannot reliably fix due to a lack of expertise and the unpredictability of AI.
