If you’re not using a robot vacuum yet, you do not know what you’re missing. I first started getting into the tech properly as a reviewer earlier this year, expecting disappointment at every turn, and I could not have been more wrong — these products have years of refinement under their belts, and are effortlessly capable of delivering a really impressive cleaning experience.
But for as good as they are, that refinement has only begun to highlight some of the areas where there’s still clear room for improvement. Yet so often with autonomous devices, that’s exactly where things start going wrong — those problems are left for last for good reason.
This past summer, I heard about the MOVA V70 Ultra Complete ($1299 at Amazon), bragging about its ability to tackle a quite literal edge case — and specifically, a problem that bothered me about the last robot vacuum I looked at: the ability to clean all the way to even hard-to-reach edges. Would it deliver? Let’s take a look.
Robot vacuums are 20-some years old at this point, but many still have a common problem: All that cleaning hardware is underneath, so if you can’t get directly on top of something, you can’t clean it. For open floors, that’s not an issue, but it makes edges tricky. Plenty try to mitigate with spinning “whisker” brushes that extend out a bit, but MOVA absolutely takes that to the next level with the V70 Ultra Complete.
