The Legend of Zelda is getting another major Wilds Era release in 2027, giving players a chance to learn more about the mysterious Zonai civilization and Hyrule's history. Some of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom's biggest mysteries revolve around the Zonai, an ancient civilization whose technology and influence are central to the adventure, and they're making a comeback.

With The Legend of Zelda celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, there's been plenty of attention surrounding the franchise's past and future. Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom remain especially important, having introduced millions of players to a much more open-ended approach to Zelda. Although Nintendo has previously suggested that it's ready to explore new ideas for future games, there's still plenty worth revisiting about the Wilds Era.

Nintendo and Dark Horse Books have announced The Legend of Zelda: Secrets of the Zonai, a massive 472-page hardcover book scheduled for release on March 30, 2027. Previously expected to launch in October 2026, the book was delayed to give the publisher additional time to prepare its release. The standard edition costs $59.99, while a special Hero's Edition is available for $119.99. Both versions explore the development of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
