The end is near for Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro, but there’s a silver lining

TL;DR Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro will stop receiving OS updates after March 2027, with security updates continuing until the end of 2027.

Both headsets will continue supporting compatible games, multiplayer cross-play, and PC VR through Meta Quest Link.

Developers can still update existing games, but must give players six months’ notice before ending support.

If you own a Meta Quest 2 or Quest Pro , you may have some bad news. Meta is preparing to wind down software support for both VR headsets , with the final operating system updates scheduled for March 2027. But before you start wondering whether it’s time to retire your headset, there’s something worth knowing: your Quest isn’t going to become useless.

According to a recent announcement on Meta’s developer blog , both headsets will continue receiving security updates until the end of 2027. That gives Quest 2 owners a little over seven years of security support since the headset first launched in 2020. The Quest Pro, which arrived in October 2022, hasn’t had quite the same luck, with its support period coming in at just over five years.
