The Best Books You Can Read In October 2026

We don’t know about you, but October is one of our favourite months to get comfortable and settle in with a good book, and there are plenty of them to choose from this month.

From highly anticipated releases from Veronica Roth, V.E. Schwab, and Sarah J. Maas, to new stories by Jason Rekulak and Jane Schoenbrun, there’s something for every type of reader. These are the best new books of October 2026 that are well worth picking up…

Derek Künsken’s The Quantum Evolution series is back, with the fourth book hitting our shelves later this month. And if it happened to pass you by before, or you want to reacquaint yourself with the world before delving into the latest story, there’s still plenty of time to do so.

Book four picks up at the end of the Quantum War, with Belisarius having been sucked into a collapsing wormhole. So, it’s up to Cassandra, Rosalie, Saint Matthew, and their comrade Stills to journey through time itself to find him. But, as you might imagine in a series like this one, things don’t exactly go to plan.

Even with Rosalie’s indicative and potent nightmares seemingly signalling to them from somewhere within the wormhole network, it will take them journeying to its ancient beginnings, and the very dawn of the universe, to hopefully bring him back.

After speaking exclusively to Veronica Roth earlier this summer , we’ve been counting down the days until her latest book – and a return to the Divergent universe – hits our shelves.
