A leaked factory notice allegedly claims the RTX 5080 24GB will become the top GeForce card
Nvidia has reportedly stopped manufacturing the GeForce RTX 5090, including the D variants made for the Chinese market.
The claim comes from a leaked notice from an unnamed factory, shared by leaker @hongxing2020 and reported by Tom's Hardware. A second leaker, @Zed__Wang, reportedly backed the claim, saying the GB202 chip behind the RTX 5090 will only go into data center and professional cards from now on.
"According to a notification from the factory, Nvidia will no longer manufacture any RTX 5090 models, including the D variants," the message from @hongxing2020 reads. "Going forward, the highest-end GeForce graphics card will be the RTX 5080 24GB, while the RTX 5080 16GB version will be discontinued. Please spread the word."
Nvidia has not announced the change, and Tom's Hardware said the company had not responded to its request for comment.
An RTX 50 Super refresh, rumored to include a 24GB RTX 5080 Super, has reportedly been delayed by memory supply constraints, according to Tom's Hardware.
Rumors put the arrival of Nvidia's Rubin-based RTX 60-series at late 2027 at the earliest, and possibly 2028.
The industry-wide memory shortage has already affected other hardware. GamesIndustry.biz previously reported that Sony could delay the PS6 to 2028 or 2029 because of the crisis, Valve said it is limited by memory capacity, and Xbox warned memory costs would affect Project Helix's pricing and availability.
