I've had chronic nightmares for over a decade, and they've left me with a slightly odd relationship with horror games. I keep coming back to the genre partly because I sometimes think, after everything my own brain has put me through while I'm asleep, how bad can a video game really be? Mama's Sleeping Angels has given me a pretty good answer. This strange indie horror game on Steam takes the familiar look of the early 2000s and drops it into a nightmare full of bizarre creatures, nonsensical events, and things that seem to exist purely to make me uncomfortable. There's something about it that feels strangely familiar, particularly when I think back to the nightmares I had as a kid.
