ConcernedApe has shared a cryptic clue for Stardew Valley update 1.7, teasing that "two paths will be extended, three will become four, the mermaid's fruit will go free."

No, you haven't guzzled too much of Gus' mead and found yourself at Level 100 in the Skull Cavern. That's a real tease ConcernedApe posted in the game's official Discord server, but it's over on Reddit where sleuths are trying to crack this bizarre enigma code.

"2 paths will be [extended]. Clint and Sandy," Reddit user IamAhuman15 suggested. "3 will become 4. A new kid in town? We got Vincent, Jas and Leo. Don't really know what he means with the last one..."

Resident_Albatross26 replied, offering a solution, "Huge guess but what if the fourth kid is the fruit of the mermaid('s pendant) meaning the player's kid? Our kids will partially grow up/'go free'??"

Supporting this, ConcernedApe said in a recent interview with IGN that "there is a popular fan request, which has to do with the children, trying to make the children a little more interesting," and that in the 1.7 update, he's "trying to do something with that."

There's not much else that fits the mermaid clue, but not everyone is convinced that two paths represent Sandy and Clint. Some argue that it could be referring the JojaMart and Community Center. After all, as 1more_oddity said, "There's no reason for him to be cryptic about marriage candidates since he already confirmed them."

Likewise, there are a few other ideas about what "three will become four" means; aside from a new kid, some argue ConcernedApe might be hinting at a new area, while others suggest that it could be a new pet type, or even a new galaxy weapon.
