Scarlett Johansson Says The Batman: Part 2 Role Caused 'Existential Angst'

While she didn’t disclose the character she’s playing, Scarlett Johansson says her role in The Batman: Part II has given her “a lot of existential angst” because it was “hard to crack.”

The Black Widow star was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight about her new movie Paper Tiger, where she was asked which of her roles in upcoming franchise films (Exorcist: Martyrs or The Batman: Part II) pushed her the most outside of her comfort zone,

“Probably the role in The Batman, because it gave me a lot of existential angst, for some reason,” Johansson explained.

“It was very hard to figure out. I don’t know why, whether it was just the role or it was just where I am in my life, but it was just hard to crack it. And that’s all I can say about it.”

The rumor mill has suggested Johansson is playing Gilda Dent or Poison Ivy in the sequel.

Johansson isn’t the only cast member who’s been asked about The Batman: Part II in recent interviews. Robert Pattinson has praised the sequel for having "an understanding of Bruce Wayne and Batman's psychology" that he doesn't "think has been seen before."

The Batman: Part II has resumed filming in the UK under the supervision of Steven Soderbergh, who is overseeing the final stages of shooting while director Matt Reeves deals with a family matter. Reeves will resume the directing reins once the film reaches post-production.

Despite the production delays, The Batman: Part II remains scheduled to open in theaters on February 18, 2028.
