John Constantine Movie From Evil Dead Wrath Filmmaker is in Development at DC

DC Studios has tapped Evil Dead Wrath writer-director Francis Galluppi to pen a John Constantine movie for the studio.

The news comes via Deadline in a report that suggests the project is still very early on in development. It's not known if Galluppi will be handling directorial duties in addition to his work on the script, and there's been no mention of any casting details at this time.

John Constantine is a comic book character created by writer Alan Moore and artists Steve Bissette and John Totleben, and is a working-class British detective who dabbles in the occult and magic.

Keanu Reeves famously played a version of the character in 2005's Constantine, and a sequel has been anticipated by fans for quite a number of years now. In late 2025, Reeves issued an update on Constantine 2, telling Fandango that a new draft of the sequel's script had been completed and that it was going to be presented to DC Studios. However, there have been no updates since then, and it's not known whether Galluppi's new script is intended to serve as a sequel to Reeves' original, or if it will be a completely new take on the demon-dispatching detective.

Meanwhile, Galluppi's Evil Dead Wrath is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on April 7, 2028. It will be the seventh installment in the Evil Dead film series, and will serve as a prequel to 1981's The Evil Dead, with its story taking place in 1972. Galluppi developed and brought the story to franchise creator Sam Raimi and his team back in 2024, off the back of the up-and-coming American filmmaker earning critical acclaim for his debut feature, The Last Stop in Yuma County.
