The Resident Evil series has so many spinoffs and remasters that it can be hard to keep track of every game outside the main numbered titles, with both Resident Evil games having been largely underrated by a majority of the fanbase. While it's not too surprising given how inaccessible the Outbreak games have been for several years now, one fan has made the co-op horror experiences free for everyone, albeit with a few major drawbacks.
The unofficial project is not affiliated with Capcom in any way, and is played at your own risk.
Joining the likes of numerous games that have been decompiled and ported over into browser form using AI vibecoding tools, both Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and its sequel can be played from your browser on a privately owned server.
Much like several other vibecoded browser projects, the performance of the Resident Evil Outbreak decomps shared by Expefutbol on X can be taxing depending on which browser you're actually playing on, which is best done with Graphics Card Acceleration or Hardware Performance, depending on what it's called in your application.
The port uses the Halo: Combat Evolved decompilation to run in your browser.
Having tried out the project myself, I can confirm that the solo mode does indeed work, although whether you can actually access it or not heavily depends on what time of day you're playing, as the browser game has been flooded with so many players that the servers have been struggling to handle it.
While I can't attest to whether it works or not, the AI project also advertises that it is completely compatible with online play, either using completely random players or by creating and sharing your own room to experience it with a few friends.
