Pokemon Bank's Shutdown Is a Bigger Problem Than Losing an Old 3DS App

For many Pokemon fans, catching a Pokemon is just the beginning. Some players have spent years bringing the same partners with them from one game to another, keeping them around long after the adventure where they first caught them has ended. Pokemon Bank made that possible, but the service's upcoming shutdown puts those connections in a difficult position. The Nintendo 3DS app is scheduled to end its service on February 26, 2027, bringing Pokemon transfers to Pokemon HOME to an end as well. Players still have time to move their collections, but the situation highlights a bigger problem with how the franchise handles its history. Pokemon has always encouraged players to build collections and form attachments to their partners. Those connections shouldn't depend entirely on services that can eventually disappear.
