One Piece Creator Oda Is Officially Bringing Back Gol D. Roger

One Piece is currently in its Elbaf arc and awaiting the release of Chapter 1197 on November 1, 2026. With each passing chapter, One Piece is edging closer to the end of this phenomenal arc, but the best of the series is yet to come.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the series, has already confirmed to us that One Piece will be taking the Straw Hat Pirates to Lodestar Island following the conclusion of the Elbaf arc. This means a legendary figure from the histories of the One Piece world is going to make his appearance once again, and this figure is the man who is hailed as the Pirate King all across the world and the only one in 800 years to complete the circumnavigation of the entire globe — Gol D. Roger. Lodestar is going to put special importance on the Pirate King Roger as well as his crew, the Roger Pirates.

The Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, holds tremendous importance when it comes to the overarching narrative established by Eiichiro Oda. In the very first chapter of One Piece, which was released on July 18, 1997, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 34, the very first character to be revealed to us and named was none other than Gol D. Roger himself. Roger was revealed to be an individual who conquered the entire seas and held it all: wealth, fame, and power. With his death, the Great Pirate Era officially began, and all those with high hopes and dreams set out to the sea in an attempt to emulate what Roger did in his pirating career.
