New PS1-Era Soulslike Game Officially Announced

Nascor Descent, a new dungeon crawler set to launch on Steam in 2027, is already drawing comparisons to some Souls games following the release of its gameplay trailer. Nascor Descent isn't developer SaikingS' first attempt at implementing a FromSoftware-approved formula. The Polish solo developer previously worked on another Steam game called Verho - Curse of Faces, which is described as a dark RPG inspired by the King's Field series.

In Nascor Descent, players take on the role of a Fallen One and can choose from four classes: Serial Killer, Enlightened One, Flesh Bender, and Fallen Knight. Each character has different abilities and stats, but they all share the same goal. They must conquer a five-realm tower filled with monsters to escape its hellish world and return to life.

Soulslike games still find ways to challenge the established formula, and these titles took some of the boldest swings yet.

Technically, Nascor Descent is described by developer SaikingS as "a first-person dark fantasy dungeon crawler with a grim atmosphere." However, the game also carries the Soulslike tag on Steam, suggesting it shares some of the subgenre's calling cards. Its first trailer confirms that Nascor Descent will use a stamina system in combat, much like most other Soulslike games, but other influences remain unconfirmed at the time of writing.

SaikingS and Tiny Goblins are using the same low-poly visuals as Verho , giving Nascor Descent a PS1-era look. The game's overall theme and world-building also resemble FromSoftware's King's Field series , which appears to be a significant influence on the developer's work.
