7 Best Turn-Based RPGs You Need To Play In Fall 2026

While I loathe to admit it, summer is well and truly over. Where I live, the leaves are changing color and falling, the days are shortening, and it's becoming less and less pleasant to spend time outside. This is where great video games can swoop in to occupy my newly obtained free time, and few games are better than this than turn-based RPGs.

The mix of high adventure and strategic depth that many turn-based games offer can be the perfect match for the cold, gloomy days of autumn. Plus, turn-based RPGs tend to adopt a whimsical or otherwise fantastical tone and style, which can help lift the spirits as we head into winter. They can be time-consuming as well, making them perfect for staycations and long weekend sessions. The following games, for one reason or another, are ideal turn-based experiences for Fall 2026.

Released only recently (September 2026), Star Wars Zero Company arrived like a glorious bolt from the blue. The debut of Bit Reactor, a studio featuring former Firaxis staff (developers of XCOM), Star Wars Zero Company is an immediately refreshing and captivating tactical RPG, perfect for Star Wars fans and non-fans alike. Put another way, Bit Reactor knocked it out of the park on its first swing.

There are so many reasons why Star Wars Zero Company is worth your time , but something worth looking at through the lens of fall-season gaming is its cinematic flair. This game will frequently look and feel like a Hollywood action movie, and with a colorful cast of lovable rogues and a genuinely compelling main plot, Star Wars Zero Company is basically the turn-based gaming equivalent of a Star Wars movie night.
