Alongside the launch of Season 5, Blizzard released a major new patch for Overwatch which adds new content, the latest playable character known as Doctrine, and massive reworks to 2 core characters. Season 5 received plenty of coverage at BlizzCon 2026, with Blizzard showcasing the next narrative phase of Overwatch. Doomfist and his team have broken into a supermax detention facility in Iceland to rescue his old friend, Doctrine. Overwatch's newest support character comes with vampiric abilities, stealing health from enemies to pass it along to himself and his allies. He also has a scepter which can deal damage to enemies while healing allies, empowering its effects even more when the Infuse ability is triggered. However, Blizzard is making plenty of changes to the roster in Season 5 of Overwatch.
An Overwatch developer shares Blizzard's stance on new skins for the popular hero shooter, sharing insight into the studio's development process.
While it isn't a surprise at this point considering the advanced warning from Blizzard, this update finally brings massive reworks to both Sombra and Roadhog in Overwatch 2 . For Sombra, she moves from the Recon Damage role and into Tactical Support, which has her Hack ability removed from her kit completely. Instead, Sombra will be able to debuff enemies using Cyberspace by inflicting Weaken, which cuts their damage and healing output in half.
