The Akatsuki was established as a legendary group full of powerful villains in the original Naruto series, and to date, it remains one of the most iconic villain groups in all of anime, if not the most iconic overall. The Akatsuki left a huge mark on the overall story of Naruto, so much so that they are still spoken of to this date, despite the series having ended 12 years ago.
Now, the Naruto series is finally bringing back the Akatsuki one last time, and this is thanks to the new limited anime for the series that is officially set to receive further announcements on October 10, 2026, at New York Comic Con, where Naruto is getting its own stage.
The Naruto manga ended its sensational run in November 2014 after delivering 700 incredible chapters to the fans. In March 2017, the anime followed suit and finally concluded with Naruto Uzumaki getting married to Hinata Hyuga at the end of the series, a plotline that was a slight deviation from the manga and that many fans considered to be bizarre. Regardless, the franchise of Naruto was then continued through Boruto, a sequel series written by Mikio Ikemoto and supervised by Masashi Kishimoto.
While Boruto is a fun journey, it failed to live up to the standard that Naruto set, and that is why, now, many years later, the Naruto franchise itself is on a path to a full revival. On October 10, 2026, New York Comic Con will reveal a ton of new, exciting information about the Naruto franchise and its future , and quite a few projects have already been revealed to us.
