Not to paint with too broad a brush, but it's safe to say that most RPG fans skew towards playing single-player RPGs. It's a special experience to carve your own path, create your own character, and make decisions whose consequences only fall on your shoulders. The hunt for the perfect single-player RPG is a lifelong quest, but some games over the years have come close.
Unfortunately, for these next games, reaching for perfection doesn't mean that anyone is playing them today, and it's not even their fault. The games on this list were all delisted from online stores either permanently, or at least for long enough that many players likely thought the game was gone for good. They're all great games, but unless you have a physical copy on hand right now, you'll have a hard time playing them.
Yes, it has a weird name, and no, I don't know how to pronounce it, but Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is still a solid turn-based RPG. It's a prequel to the Ar Tonelico series (no, I can't pronounce that one either), games known for their off-beat JRPG mechanics, heavy focus on music, and a surprising amount of sex. Ar nosurge has a weird sci-fi concept, some crisp, visually-appealing art, and less sex, generally speaking. It's also part JRPG and part narrative adventure, but the narrative is a good one, so that's no problem. It's kind of quirky, but it's fun.
Well, it was, anyway. As of July 8, 2026, Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is delisted on all digital platforms, alongside Ciel nosurge, the previous release in the series.
