Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Gege Is Killing Off The New Strongest Sorcerer

Different eras of Jujutsu Kaisen have had different strongest sorcerers, and Gege Akutami has thus created various legends spanning across different eras. In the Heian era, Sukuna stood as the strongest, and his immense power was such that he transcended time itself, reincarnating in the modern era, which had already seen Gojo Satoru stand tall as the strongest sorcerer.

However, now, in the modern era, set 68 years after the conclusion of the Shinjuku Showdown, Gege Akutami has officially confirmed to us a completely new strongest in the form of Yuji Itadori, the former protagonist of the series. While Yuji stands as the new strongest in the modern era and has officially obtained the position of a Special Grade Sorcerer, he is now incredibly close to being killed off, which is a sad turn of events in the story.

When Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo began, it was unclear as to whether Yuji Itadori was still alive or not. However, at the end of the first volume, Gege finally teased the return of the former protagonist of the series. In the final volume of Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, which was released on May 1, 2026, and went on to make record sales in Japan, Yuji Itadori finally returned. Modulo Chapter 19, which was released in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 9 of 2026, saw Yuji Itadori unleash his Blood Manipulation.

"Veterans don't die. They wither away with time, you know?" — Yuji Itadori returns, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #19

Immediately upon his return, he also went on to showcase the ability to hit a mastered Black Flash at will , making him a sorcerer on a completely different scale.
