Jagex Cancels Runescape Reignited In Response To Player Complaints

Despite having been released well over 25 years ago, RuneScape has continued to evolve with new updates, sequels, spinoffs, and versions of the classic MMORPG for players to enjoy. While several of these projects, like the most recent RuneScape: Wildland, were able to achieve plenty of success in bringing in new players to the franchise, not all of them have been so lucky.

As announced on the official Runescape YouTube channel by Creative Director Mod Ryan, the Runescape Reignited initiative that was meant to encourage new players is now officially gone for good, which has prompted a fairly mixed reaction from players so far.

Originally scheduled to release on December 2 of this year, Runescape Reignited's cancellation comes barely a week after its official announcement trailer went live, which comes after the short-lived project faced intense backlash from veteran players.

If you haven't heard of Runescape Reignited, which wouldn't be surprising given its short lifespan, the project was aimed at offering a fresh start for the Runescape 3 experience as if it were just released.

Old School RuneScape isn't just there for nostalgia, as it brings in more than 240,000 players at once over the weekend.

Runescape Reignited accounts would also have launched without several of Runescape's most controversial mechanics, like the Treasure Hunter microtransaction system, Hero Pass, and Evolution of Combat, while still letting players access all the modern quality-of-life features and gameplay improvements currently in the game.

While the account system sounds great on paper, the cancellation didn't exactly come out of nowhere, as players were more than vocal about their criticisms regarding the Runescape Reignited project.
