Magic: the Gathering is the premier fantasy trading card game, and it could never have reached that point without expanding its horizons. Perhaps the largest part of this strategy in recent years belongs to Universes Beyond, the official series of other franchises and IP that enter the world of Magic: the Gathering. For better or worse, Universes Beyond has become a crossover hub to rival Fortnite. However, there are still more than a few stones left unturned.
Final Fantasy is perhaps the series most responsible for defining what it means to be an RPG, so it should come as no surprise that it was christened with its own UB set in Magic. It quickly became one of the most well-received sets in Universes Beyond, and even brought many new players into the community for the first time. With this precedent, it's hard not to imagine how many other iconic RPG series deserve the Magic: The Gathering crossover treatment.
Magic: The Gathering's 2026 lineup is packed with major crossovers, but the growing list raises a question Wizards of the Coast can't ignore.
Dragon Quest is a fantasy roleplaying game series created by authors Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama, and Koichi Sugiyama and published by Square Enix. Each game typically consists of a nameless central character know as the Hero fighting evil with their party members. They encounter monsters such as the famous Slime mascot. There are currently 11 games in the main franchise.
Dragon Quest is, in many ways, something of a sibling series to Final Fantasy .
