Rockstar still hasn't brought GTA 4 to next-gen consoles, with it only being playable on Xbox One and Series X/S via the backwards compatibility program, while PS4 and PS5 players are left completely in the lurch with no option whatsoever. So, fans have taken it upon themselves to port it to PS5.
Mods like these used to be fun to spotlight and report on because we were celebrating the ingenuity of hobbyists who were rivaling entire dev teams in their spare time. Made in a cave with a box of scraps, and all that. The GTA 4 recomp isn't that — graphic designer Ruben Ripalda ported OZORDI's Liberty Recompiled project to a jailbroken PS5, which works by using an Xbox 360 disc image, even allowing you to import your existing saves. However, the port and new exclusive DualSense features, Trophies, and button prompts appear to have been vibecoded with Claude.
Vibecoding comes with a whole host of issues. The underlying code is often patchwork and tangled, making it unreliable, poorly optimized, and prone to security flaws. That means games are more demanding than they need to be, leading to sluggish performance and inconsistent framerate. They're also much harder to update as a result, often lending to the creator's lack of programming know-how, meaning that patches risk making things worse, not better. Given the foundation of this project isn't vibecoded, but the port to PS5 is, it may fare better, but that doesn't take away from the impact that AI-assisted development is having on the industry.
