Goku and Vegeta share what is perhaps the greatest rivalry in anime history. The duo met for the first time in Dragon Ball Z's Saiyan Saga, immediately developing an intense hatred and respect for one another that kept them training non-stop for multiple series to come. Even deep into Dragon Ball Super, the franchise remains framed around Goku and Vegeta constantly pushing each other to new heights.

While the two have become evenly matched in Dragon Ball Super, DBZ was another story entirely. Goku and Vegeta's rivalry was actually fairly one-sided during Dragon Ball Z, driven mostly by Vegeta's ego. Although most fans would assume Goku was always stronger than Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z, this wasn't necessarily the case. The Prince of All Saiyans almost always found ways to keep up with his rival, even if Goku was up to his own devices.

Yamoshi was a strong Ancient Saiyan who gave his life to create a better world and his legacy continues in Dragon Ball through his descendants.

Even though Vegeta looks back on his first battle with Goku as a personal defeat, the Prince of All Saiyans was much stronger than Goku throughout their whole battle. Even after training with King Kai and pushing Kaioken to x4, Goku was unable to beat Vegeta.
