Pokemon Pokopia Ported to Switch 1

A modder has successfully ported Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive Pokemon Pokopia to the original Nintendo Switch. The modder's effort has impressed gamers, but some who only own the original Switch are expressing their frustrations at Pokemon Pokopia only being officially available on the newer hardware.

The newest Nintendo console has been very successful, with the Nintendo Switch 2 moving 3.5 million units in just its first four days on the market. With over 23 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sold by June 2026, plenty of fans have taken the leap and upgraded to the latest system from the company. However, the original Switch is still a popular console, which makes efforts like these particularly intriguing.

Switch 2 players looking for a Halloween scare don't need a flashy new release when one of the genre's most unsettling adventures takes just 10 hours.

A modder going by the name of fuyuka has shared that they've managed to bring Pokemon Pokopia to the original Switch and got it running. However, as the Nintendo Switch 2 is considerably more powerful than its predecessor, there were some caveats involved. Initially, fuyuka revealed that their port was "running amazingly" with the resolution downgraded to 540p. However, they didn't stop there. By overclocking their original Nintendo Switch, they were able to get the game working in both 1080p and 720p, with the frame rate averaging about 10–15 FPS and 32–35 FPS, respectively. They shared a brief gameplay video of the game capped at 30 FPS, which looks like it's running pretty smoothly.
