God of War Laufey delayed three months to May 2027, as Sony Santa Monica escapes a packed February

God of War Laufey has been delayed. Sony Santa Monica's PS5 exclusive is now dodging the crowded month of February and will instead come out on 20th May, 2027.

Developer Sony Santa Monica announced it's pushing back the upcoming action epic via a brief social media post. While the studio stopped short of giving a reason for the delay, it did say it's using the extra time to polish Faye's solo adventure.

"Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we've been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye's journey through the Everywhen. We don't take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans," the studio wrote.

"With this in mind, we've made the decision to delay God of War Laufey's release to May 20th, 2027," the statement continued. "We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential. On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we'll be back to share more updates soon."

God of War Laufey is notably the first game in the famed PlayStation series to not star Kratos in the lead role. This time around, Faye takes the lead through a version of the afterlife that houses gods and deities from multiple mythologies - and it's bringing back the original series' faster combat, too.

Of course, Kratos will return in future God of War games (he also shows up here and there during Faye's romp), and whatever that next Kratos game becomes, it'll supposedly connect to the events of Laufey , according to the developer.
