Final Fantasy Resonance is set to launch on October 22, and as exciting as a new Final Fantasy release is on its own, what's most compelling is that the game may be the key to saving live-service RPGs and other live-service games that have been shut down over the years. See, Final Fantasy Resonance isn't completely new. It's a reworked version of the now defunct mobile spin-off Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and brings it to consoles as a single-player experience.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius was a free-to-play mobile gacha game that ran for eight years until Square Enix officially shut it down in 2024. Mobile gacha games aren't every Final Fantasy fans' cup of tea, but the spin-off had a solid dedicated fan base. It's always unfortunate when fans have to say goodbye to a game they love because a company decides to bring everything to an end. Games shutting down means that years' worth of playtime is made redundant, but Final Fantasy Resonance is proving that there is another way.
