Stephen King has been a bestselling author for over 50 years at this point, and with the first adaptation of his work popping up just two years after his debut novel, it's no surprise that the number of screen retellings of his stories now reaches into triple figures. Hollywood just can't get enough of the guy, so whatever he writes — be it novel, novella, or short story — there's a high chance it's going to be turned into a movie or TV series sooner rather than later.

With there being such a high volume of King adaptations in development at all times, it stands to reason that some titles that have already been adapted will be remade or rebooted. Sometimes that's because the first one was so successful, other times it's because the previous attempt deviated too much from the source material. And occasionally it's a little of both. To date, there have been 14 Stephen King stories that have been adapted more than once, with a select few of them being adapted more than twice.

Between supernatural monsters like Pennywise and the callous prison guard in The Green Mile, Stephen King has a knack for horrific villains.

"Gramma" is one of the many Stephen King short stories that have enjoyed an outsized life in film and TV. The tale from King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew was first adapted to the screen just one year after its publication, for an episode of The Twilight Zone revival series . As with the short story, the episode follows a young boy ( The Neverending Story 's Barrett Oliver) who is terrified of his infirm grandmother — as it turns out, for good reason.
