Dragon Ball Reveals New Super Saiyan God Goku Redesign Ahead of Comeback

In just a short few weeks, the Dragon Ball Super anime will finally be back after a years-long hiatus. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be remaking the original DBS anime, serving as a lead-up to Dragon Ball Super 2's eventual premiere: Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. Described as an enhanced remake, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is going to radically trim down the first anime while bringing the story more in-line with Toriyama's vision.

Even though the Dragon Ball Super remake is meant to stick close to Toriyama's original plans for DBS, the anime is already making some changes. Super Saiyan God is getting a redesign in Dragon Ball Super: Beerus that emphasizes Goku's divine power in favor of the subversive design from Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.

The latest entry of the Toriyama Archives brings back DBZ's original Z-Fighters in a rare piece of promo art from 1989.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus ' version of Super Saiyan God resembles Akira Toriyama's original design for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods , but both the promo artist and anime team have made some notable changes to Goku's God form. Notably, Goku's hair is a darker shade of red, losing some of SSG's original magenta overtones. Goku also isn't nearly as slim as he was in both Battle of Gods and early Dragon Ball Super , featuring far more muscle definition.
