Denmu has announced the final close of Denmu Fund I. The debut fund closed oversubscribed, with total capital commitments exceeding its initial $50 million target. The capital is pledged to support game makers through development and into launch and growth.
The final close follows Denmu’s June fundraising announcement and comes alongside its growing portfolio of games, spanning independent projects to larger productions across PC, console and mobile platforms. The fund’s limited partners include a diverse group of game strategic companies, founders, family offices and foundations.
“We started Denmu to back games with a clear creative identity and to build lasting relationships with the people making them,” said Ryan You, general partner and CEO of Denmu, in a press release.
“Closing above our target gives us more capacity to do just that. Each game developer needs a different combination of funding, production support and access to players. Our job is to understand those unique individual needs and build a partnership that works for both the game and the studio over time.”
According to the press release, alongside the final close, Denmu is sharing further details on just some of the companies and games it backs, including:
Sony Interactive Entertainment recently announced Denmu’s involvement in upgraded support for the China Hero Project, a PlayStation initiative designed to further expand its global collaborative ecosystem and deliver highly tailored professional services to Chinese game developers.
DABA: Land of Water Scar, developed by Dark Star (creators of Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption), is part of Phase 3 of the China Hero Project and is one of the many games Denmu has invested in.
