Cozy gamers looking for a witchy title to enjoy for the Halloween season can finally jump into the official 1.0 launch of REKA, a laid-back, relaxing crafting game inspired by Slavic folklore. REKA fully released exclusively for PC via Steam on October 26, and the magical indie game is already earning high marks among genre fans and Wicca enthusiasts.
While REKA originally launched in early access all the way back in September 2024, the game has undergone a number of key changes over the years to prepare it for its big 1.0 release. Initial reviews from 2024 praised REKA for its visual style and magical themes, as well as its slightly different approach to a folklore world that removed combat and instead prioritized questing and crafting. Most of the improvements made throughout the two years of early access focused on balancing the gameplay experience, improving user interfaces, and ensuring a multitude of bugs were finally squashed. Having already earned comparisons to games like Disney Dreamlight Valley, the 1.0 launch of REKA seems to be hitting a solid stride now that it has finally left early access.
If you've ever wanted to be an NPC in a fantasy game like Hogwarts Legacy, this whimsical indie title allows you to experience that dream.
REKA sees players taking on the role of the titular Reka, as she enters a magical apprenticeship and sets out on a stress-free adventure of growth and discovery. Players can collect materials to reconstruct, decorate, and customize the walking chicken-legged cottage made famous by Slavic folklore, all while advancing their studies of gentle witchcrafts under the tutelage of the great witch Baba Jaga.
