Francis Galluppi, writer and director of Evil Dead Wrath, has reportedly been brought on board to write a Constantine movie for DC Studios. It is currently unknown whether this film is a sequel to Constantine (2005) or a completely new adaptation of the comic, but the latter seems to be the likely case.
John Constantine is a British chain-smoking occult master and detective who is able to prevail against the nastiest creatures of Hell thanks to his wits and unlikely charm. This popular DC comic book has received several live-action adaptations throughout the years, namely an NBC series from 2014 starring Matt Ryan, who also voiced Constantine in the animated series, and the 2005 Warner Bros. movie, Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves.
Despite overall positive reviews , the television series was short-lived, as NBC refused to renew it for a second season. Director Francis Lawrence and writer Akiva Goldsman were hired to work on Constantine 2 , the sequel to the Keanu Reeves adaptation. It has been in development for years — with several hiccups along the way. Last year, James Gunn confirmed that he and Reeves had discussed the sequel on and off, but he had not been given the script yet. It was taking a particularly long time because Reeves was unhappy with the script, says Peter Stormare , who appeared in Constantine . While it contradicts last month's report of its development , it's likely that Constantine 2 was scrapped altogether after being in the works for so long.
