Extraction shooters usually have a way of encouraging players to loot absolutely everything in their way. After all, there's always a possibility that the next container will have something valuable inside, and it makes sense why nobody wants to leave behind anything unchecked. Of course, there's only so much excitement you can get from collecting random objects in Call of Duty, and once you figure out which ones are actually worth carrying around, scavenging starts to get old pretty quickly.
This was somewhat of a problem with the original Call of Duty DMZ, where loot would gradually lose its significance, especially those items that players knew they didn't need. Thankfully, the new DMZ seems determined to give players a better reason to fill up their backpacks as it introduces a Forward Operating Base (FOB). It aims to give extracted resources a practical purpose beyond just making money. That's how even the most ordinary items could actually become difficult to leave behind.
Infinity Ward reveals more details about the return of DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 including the location, emergent gameplay, and more.
The Forward Operating Base in Modern Warfare 4 ’s DMZ features more than 12 stations that players can unlock as they progress. For example, you can craft equipment using the 3D Printer, resources, and ingredients. These same resources will also be necessary for upgrading various FOB stations. Considering all of this, it's safe to conclude that collecting materials will not just be about having something useful for your next deployment.
