After more than two decades dominating the PC MMO battlefield, it sounds like Blizzard Entertainment's taking the idea of a World of Warcraft console port more seriously than ever.
World of Warcraft: Forever's beta seems to have been immensely popular with fans of the series. It's a brand new third version of the iconic multiplayer game that sits alongside WoW's Classic and Retail portions, and it's recaptured many a lapsed Warcraft sicko with tons of good changes, big and small - one of which is controller support for the first time ever.
Speaking to GamesRadar about the decision to keep World of Warcraft: Forever exclusive to PC players, despite now supporting gamepads, vice president and executive producer Holly Longdale hinted that the fantasy game might just make its way to even more devices and players over time.
"What you just described is really what we're after," she told the outlet. "Play it wherever you want and, at some point, on whatever you want. But the first leg of that journey is getting gamepads working really well with World of Warcraft, and we thought Forever was the perfect place to start."
Longdale reckons all gaming platforms might become "more ubiquitous" in the future, as well. She specifically named the Xbox Project Helix, which is said to be a PC-console hybrid device of some kind. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the next-gen console can even play your PC games earlier in the year.
