"The same market conditions that have challenged so many of our fellow developers have now also affected us"
In a statement posted to LinkedIn, the company said it had "begun a redundancy consultation process affecting around a quarter of roles at the studio."
"Over the past year our colleagues have delivered amazing games like Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! to wonderful reception from our players," the statement said.
"Despite that creative success, the same market conditions that have challenged so many of our fellow developers have now also affected us. Consequently, we have made the decision to restructure the studio to work through a turbulent and uncertain time in our industry."
Addressing its staff directly, Auroch added that it was "immensely proud of everything you have achieved, and are deeply sorry for the position we are now in."
"We know this will be an incredibly challenging and uncertain time for everyone at the studio. Our priority is supporting everyone through the consultation process with as much care and respect as we can. We will work hard to lessen the impact of these changes." It then asked "partners and friends in the industry" to "please consider finding a place for our staff in your studio."
According to the Bristol-based studio's own LinkedIn page, Auroch employs between 51-200 staff. It was acquired by Sumo Group for $8.3m in 2021.
