7 Horror Masterpieces You Can't Watch Twice

Good horror movies are meant to provoke you with a terrifying story, memorable villain, or deep social commentary. Many great horror movies are worthy of a rewatch, which allows audiences to catch hidden details and relive the very same thrills they enjoyed the first time around. Horror fans often revisit classics like Halloween or Friday the 13th, which set the bar for some of the best slasher movies like Scream to follow, but some masterpieces in the genre, no matter how intriguing, can only be watched once.

In fairness, just because a horror movie falls into this category doesn't mean it's inherently flawed. In fact, the opposite can be true; a horror film can be so spine-chillingly disturbing that audiences are reluctant to rewatch it again, earning it a level of notoriety. Between Eden Lake and The Sadness, some fans can't rewatch these films, which are either too intense, upsetting, or violent.

From The Cure to The Kill List, the horror doesn't stop when these terrifying movies are over.

Admittedly, Eden Lake is a slow burn, but it earns its bloody stripes at the halfway mark. The 2008 horror follows Steve (Michael Fassbender) and Jenny (Kelly Riley), who travel to the remote, titular lake for a romantic getaway. The trip starts innocently enough with only a few minor disturbances, like a rambunctious family ruining Jenny and Steve's evening. However, things take a dark turn when they encounter a gang of hostile teenagers. Put simply, the encounter kick-starts a rivalry between Steven and the gang, which progressively escalates for most of the movie's runtime.
