A Pixar release, one of the year's biggest horror movies, and more

Happy weekend! As we near the end of September, some of the year’s biggest movies are now available on streaming and VOD. So before you fill up your watchlist with classic horror to get into the Halloween spirit, why not catch up on some of the latest films to hit your favorite streamers?

Two big and exciting movies are available on some of the most popular apps this week. Toy Story 5 is on Disney+, following Jessie, the adorable toy cowgirl who's been around since the franchise’s second film back in 1999. Backrooms, one of the year's biggest horror hits, is now available on HBO Max.

Toy Story 5 might be the best entry in the Pixar franchise in over a decade. While the story features protagonists Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen), it smartly relegates them to the background, narrowing its focus on Jessie (Joan Cusack) and her bond with Bonnie as the little girl faces the perils of technology.

While the movie doesn’t quite reach the heights of the first three films, it is a thoughtful, funny, emotional entry into the franchise that improves upon Toy Story 4 in every way. And while I still kinda think the franchise should have concluded with Toy Story 3, I no longer fear and resent future Toy Story movies. Toy Story 5 is so good, and puts the characters in such a good place, that it changed my whole mentality on the matter.
