[Weekly funding roundup Oct 17-23] VC funding falls below $100M amid lack of big deals

Venture capital funding for Indian startups saw a steep decline in the third week of October, primarily due to a lower number of deals and the absence of any large-value transactions.

Venture capital funding during the week stood at just $96 million across 15 deals. In contrast, startups raised a total of $180 million in the previous week.

This sharp drop in venture capital funding highlights the challenges the Indian startup ecosystem continues to face in raising a steady flow of capital. This is also the eighth time so far this year that weekly venture capital funding has fallen below the $100 million mark.

The only large deal during the week was Even Healthcare’s $50 million raise. The other deals were worth $11 million or less. While transactions during the week saw investors place their bets across segments such as healthcare, consumer and AI, there were no other significant deals.

The biggest challenge for the Indian startup ecosystem so far this year has been the low number of large-value deals. In fact, there have been just 16 deals worth $100 million or more. This does not bode well for the ecosystem as 2026 draws to a close.

The Pant Project, a premium menswear label, raised Rs 109 crore ($11.4 million approx.) from Mirae Asset Venture Investments, Sorin Investments, Alteria Capital, and family offices.

Rural healthcare platform CureBay raised Rs 100 crore ($10.4 million approx.) from IvyCap Ventures, Trifecta Capital, Alteria Capital and VentureSoul Partners.

) from Bessemer Venture Partners, Stride Ventures, influencer Tanmay Bhat, and select family offices.
