OKX, a digital asset platform with a global user base exceeding 150 million people, has rolled out its Mastercard-backed OKX Card to eligible customers in the United States, allowing them to pay for day-to-day goods and services directly with stablecoins.
The virtual card draws on USDC, USDT and USDG balances held within a customer’s OKX Pay wallet, removing the need to convert holdings into fiat currency or shift money into a separate account before making a purchase. Users can pay at any of the hundreds of millions of merchants worldwide that accept Mastercard, and OKX charges no transaction or foreign exchange fees on card spending.
The launch targets a long-standing friction point for crypto holders. Storing stablecoins and using them at the till have typically required separate steps, with users often forced to convert manually, pass funds through an intermediary account or absorb extra charges along the way.
The card’s spending limit is secured by the stablecoins sitting in a user’s OKX Pay wallet. Customers activate the card through the OKX app and can link it to Apple Pay or Google Pay. Those who opt for Autopay can earn cashback on qualifying USDG purchases, beginning at 2% and climbing to 10% at the top tier, capped at $18,000 in rewards per year. Alternatively, users can settle balances manually from a linked USD account.
USDG held on OKX Pay can also generate yield while it sits unspent, with annual percentage yields rising to as much as 10% depending on a user’s OKX Pay tier.
