At Morpho, Foster will lead commercial strategy as the company works to extend adoption beyond crypto-native firms to fintechs, traditional financial institutions and other businesses building credit products on public blockchain rails. The company already counts Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle, Bitwise Asset Management and Société Générale among the clients building onchain credit products on its infrastructure.
Paul Frambot, co-founder and chief executive of Morpho, said Foster “has a unique track record of bringing crypto infrastructure to some of the world’s largest financial institutions, fintechs, and governments” and would be central to the company’s ambition to scale “from a leading crypto credit protocol into the foundation for global credit markets.”
The hire is a tell about where Morpho is positioning itself competitively. Onchain lending protocols began as retail and crypto-native products, but a cohort of them, Morpho among the most prominent, have spent the past two years rebuilding their architecture and compliance posture to attract regulated institutions. The $17 billion deposit figure, described as an all-time high, gives the company a credible anchor for those conversations, though independent verification of the total deposits figure was not provided with the release.
Morpho’s modular design, which allows financial institutions to embed configurable credit products without ceding control of the user experience, is increasingly a standard pitch in the decentralised finance infrastructure space. Rivals including Aave and Compound have made parallel moves toward institutional products, and a growing number of regulated lenders are exploring tokenised credit as a route to more efficient collateral management and settlement.
