The FIS AML Investigations Agent was first announced in May, PYMNTS reported, although at that time it was called the Financial Crimes AI Agent. It is designed to tackle anti-money laundering investigations.

“Investigations don’t slow down because analysts lack judgment,” Stan Szwalbenest, head of enterprise fraud and financial crimes at FIS, said in the release. “They slow down because evidence is scattered across systems and every alert gets treated the same. By bringing together the core, payments and data these investigations rely on, FIS gives analysts a head start while keeping them in control of every decision.”

The solution is the first of its kind from FIS and has embedded controls that keep analysts in charge of every decision, according to the release. FIS developed the agent with the help from Anthropic and design partner Amalgamated Bank, where the agent is now deployed.

Amalgamated’s analysis of its investigation workflows combined with the AML agent’s expected abilities suggest the agent will be able to reduce review and investigation time, giving investigators more time to focus on complex cases requiring greater judgement, per the release.
