Donegal expands ZestyAI deal to sharpen property risk

Donegal Insurance Group, a US property and casualty insurer, has broadened its existing relationship with InsurTech firm ZestyAI by adopting the Z-PROPERTY solution to gain deeper insight into the homes and exposures within its personal lines book.

Through Z-PROPERTY, the insurer will apply verified, high-accuracy data to a wider set of property characteristics that drive risk, including the condition and complexity of roofs, debris on a lot and other features that influence both exposure and premium. The move is designed to equip Donegal’s portfolio managers with stronger evidence when making policy-level decisions, while also giving the company a validated picture of exposure across the whole personal lines portfolio.

The two companies first began working together in 2025, when Donegal chose ZestyAI’s Roof Age product to strengthen the internal data underpinning its homeowners business. Roof Age draws on building permit information alongside over two decades of historical aerial images to identify when roofs were replaced.

Donegal Insurance Group chief underwriting officer Jeffery Hay said, “The quality of our decisions depends on the quality of the information behind them. Our initial work with ZestyAI strengthened the roof age data available to our teams. Expanding the relationship gives us a more complete understanding of the properties we insure and greater confidence in how we evaluate, manage and reinsure risk.”

ZestyAI founder and CEO Attila Toth said, “Donegal has experienced the benefits of our verified roof age data with regard to underwriting. Z-PROPERTY extends that standard across the entire portfolio.
