Alpaca moves closer to UAE brokerage licence with ADGM approval

Alpaca, an agent-first brokerage and clearing infrastructure provider, has moved closer to establishing a regulated presence in the UAE after its Middle East entity received in-principle approval from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).

The approval covers an application by Alpaca Clearing & Custody ME Ltd, known as Alpaca Middle East, for a Financial Services Permission. If granted, the permission would allow the entity to provide brokerage services and virtual asset custody within the scope authorised by the FSRA.

The development brings Alpaca’s API-driven brokerage infrastructure closer to financial institutions and FinTech partners across the region. However, the in-principle approval does not authorise the company to conduct regulated activities in or from ADGM. Any launch remains conditional on meeting the regulator’s requirements and receiving the full permission.

Alpaca already works with financial institutions and FinTech platforms across the Middle East, supporting services spanning digital investing, savings and brokerage. The company sees these relationships, alongside its local team and global infrastructure, as a foundation for further investment in the region.

Its brokerage and clearing technology provides access to traditional and on-chain asset classes. Alpaca supports more than 15 million brokerage accounts across hundreds of FinTech companies and financial institutions in more than 50 countries, and has raised $400m in funding.

The UAE represents the latest step in Alpaca’s strategy to establish regulated brokerage infrastructure across international markets. The company already has a regulatory presence in the US, UK, Europe, Japan, India and The Bahamas.
